Autonomous ride-hailing vehicles are not observing the 15 MPH speed limit "when children are present", which is almost always the case Monday-Friday 7:30am-9:00am and 2:00pm-4:00pm. I observed at 8:30AM this morning (Th Oct 29, 2026), a Waymo driving at approximately 25-30 MPH at this location (southbound on Balboa Way at Devereux Dr). Earlier this month, a child was just hit in the crosswalk 100 feet south of this location. The City of Burlingame should communicate to all operators of autonomous vehicles and/or purveyors of self-driving software to have them prevent their software from routing vehicles along school and playground area crosswalks except as a last-resort. The city should maintain an up-to-date GIS map layer denoting the boundaries of these "no-go" zones.
