, I am writing to renew my request for immediate action regarding the ongoing illegal dumping along the east side of Foothill Boulevard, between Broadmoor Boulevard and 108th Avenue, beneath Interstate 580. This issue has been brought to the attention of the City of Oakland Public Works Department on previous occasions, dating back to August 2024. Unfortunately, the illegal dumping continues to be a persistent problem, negatively affecting the appearance, cleanliness, safety, and overall quality of life in our neighborhood. I appreciate your previous responses and efforts to address this matter. However, I remain concerned that the uncertainty surrounding jurisdictional responsibility between the cities of Oakland and San Leandro has become an ongoing obstacle to achieving a permanent solution. Public Health and Safety: Accumulated debris can attract rodents, create unsanitary conditions, and potentially pose fire hazards. Neighborhood Deterioration: Unaddressed dumping encourages additional illegal disposal and diminishes the appearance of the surrounding community. Environmental Impact: Improperly discarded materials may create environmental hazards and threaten nearby drainage systems. Community Accountability: The lack of a clearly identified responsible agency makes it difficult for residents to report violations and obtain timely assistance. I respectfully request the following actions: Immediate Cleanup: Arrange for the removal of accumulated debris along the identified section of Foothill Boulevard. Preventive Enforcement: Consider increased monitoring, appropriate signage, and enforcement measures to discourage repeat offenders. Sincerely, Richard H Scott Concerned Resident and Community Advocate San Leandro, California
