Signal timing on California Drive rewards speeding (Peninsula Ave to Oak Grove Ave) Hello Burlingame Traffic Engineering, I regularly bike along California Drive between Peninsula Avenue and Oak Grove Avenue, and I'd like to request a review of the signal timing and detection along this stretch. The timing rewards speeding. The signals appear to be coordinated for speeds above the posted limit. Drivers who speed hit green after green, while anyone going the limit, whether driving or biking, gets stopped at red after red. That gives drivers a reason to speed on a corridor used by people biking and walking. I'd ask the city to re-time the corridor to a progression speed at or below the speed limit, ideally one that also works for people on bikes, so that the safe speed is the one that makes the lights. Specifically, I'd ask the city to consider: - Re-timing the corridor progression to the speed limit or slower, so speeding no longer pays off - Advance detection or shorter maximum waits on approaches where bikes are often stuck I'm happy to share more detail about specific intersections, directions and times of day if that would help. Please let me know whether this should also go to the Traffic, Safety and Parking Commission. Thank you for your time, Maggie Bobbin
