It's more about planning than safety. As a bicyclist, it doesn't make a lot of sense for the bike lane to be going the same way as traffic here. Traffic is very slow because everybody's looking for parking. You could make this much more useful by bicyclists by making it two-way for bikes, by making the bike lane go the other way. This is a very common pattern in continental European cities where you've got a one-way street that has a little bit of extra space. They don't use that to make a bike lane going the same way. They use it to make a bike lane going the other way, to make it a two-way street for bicycles. I mean have an engineer come through and look at it would be nice to have more safety posts to separate it, but I think the main thing would just be to have the arrows go the other way. This is about Bellevue, to be clear. (While I was writing this, I just watched a bicyclist going the direction of traffic biking in the car traffic lane and then a e-scooter using the bike lane going the other way. So people are using this this way already!)
