I wanted to bring to your attention an incident that occurred during the slurry seal work on Best Avenue in San Leandro. I’m not sure whether this was already documented by the crew, but I wanted to make sure it was reported and brought to your attention. A resident (248 Best Ave) drove through the street while the slurry material was still wet, bypassing the barriers that were in place. While other neighbors received advance notice of the work, this resident claimed she never received the notice. One of the workers specifically warned her that she could be charged for any damage caused by driving on the freshly treated pavement. Despite that warning, she proceeded to drive through the restricted area. The resulting damage is clearly visible and detracts from the appearance of the newly treated street. After the time and effort involved in completing this work, it is frustrating to see the finished surface damaged because someone chose to disregard the barriers and proceed despite being warned. I have photos (see attached) and video documenting the incident and the resulting damage, along with the vehicle’s license plate number. I can provide this evidence to support your investigation. Could you please confirm whether this incident was documented and advise how the damage will be assessed and addressed? I believe the resident should be held responsible for the repair costs if the damage is confirmed to have resulted from her actions.
