Description

The walking path behind Bahia Elementary, from Bellam Blvd/Playa Del Rey all the way to Pickleweed Park, has become a disgusting dog waste corridor. Large piles of dog feces line both sides of the path for long stretches, creating a constant odor and making a public walkway unpleasant and unsanitary for pedestrians, families, runners, and schoolchildren. The lack of trash cans along this route is a glaring failure. What exactly does the City expect responsible pet owners to do with bagged waste when there are virtually no disposal options available? Predictably, many don't bother picking it up at all. Equally concerning is the apparent lack of enforcement. Existing leash and waste-pickup ordinances mean little if nobody is enforcing them. The result is a path that smells like a kennel and looks neglected despite being heavily used by the community. Public Works and Parks need to stop ignoring this corridor. Install trash cans and dog waste stations, increase maintenance frequency, and coordinate enforcement patrols. Residents should not have to dodge piles of feces or endure the smell of dog waste on a public pathway every day. This problem has been allowed to persist for far too long and reflects poorly on the City's commitment to maintaining public spaces. Please address it immediately.
